Malcolm Todd turns an intimate Fort Lauderdale stop into a theatrical sea of screaming fans on the Do That Again Tour.

Fort Lauderdale’s humidity may have tested the patience of thousands of fans waiting outside War Memorial Auditorium, but once the lights went down, nobody seemed to care. Malcolm Todd’s Do That Again Tour transformed the intimate venue into a sea of red, screaming fans and theatrical moments.

The night started with 54 Ultra getting the crowd moving and ready for one of the hottest rising artists in music. John Anthony had fans swaying their arms and bodies while singing along to songs such as “Heaven Knows” and “Where Are You.” Pink backgrounds, the closeness of the stage and Anthony’s energy created a colorful and electrifying start to the night.

War Memorial Auditorium’s intimate layout became one of the standout features of the show. Unlike larger arenas and stadiums, where audiences can sometimes feel disconnected from the performers, Malcolm Todd and 54 Ultra were close enough that interactions and moments throughout the night felt personal. Even fans farther from the stage never seemed that far away.

A deep sea of red became prominent throughout the crowd, paying tribute to Todd’s new album, Do That Again. During the intermission between 54 Ultra and Malcolm Todd, fans repeatedly erupted into chants of “Malcolm!” as the auditorium became even redder, with the lights and backgrounds changing to a solid red.

Then it was time for the main event.

Todd and his crew received an introduction that felt more like the starting lineup of a basketball game than the beginning of a concert. A video showed each member of the group performing handshakes and dances with one another before walking onto the stage. Saving the star for last, the introduction concluded with an emphatic, “AND MALCOLM MOTHER F****** TODD!”

The response was immediate.

War Memorial erupted. Fans who had waited in long lines outside suddenly became even louder, jumping and singing along as Todd opened with “Jean Skirt.” The performance moved into other fan favorites, including “Breathe” and “Malcolm in the Middle.”

Todd took time to ask how everyone was doing and talked about how much he loved Florida. He mentioned that although War Memorial Auditorium was one of the smallest venues on his tour, the Fort Lauderdale crowd brought considerably more energy than its size suggested.

That energy continued to build throughout the night. Even people farther toward the back of the auditorium began swaying, singing and screaming along to their favorite songs.

But the music was not the only thing keeping the audience engaged.

During “Chest Pain,” clips from memorable romance movies, including When Harry Met Sally… and WALL-E, played across the screen. The scenes drew strong reactions and added another emotional element to the performance, connecting the song with recognizable moments from the films.

One of the night’s funniest theatrical moments came when Todd suddenly stopped the show and the previously loud auditorium quickly fell silent.

“I have been looking everywhere for these things,” Todd proclaimed.

The camera panned down to reveal a pair of earrings sitting on the stage.

The joke quickly became clear as “Earrings” began to play and the room erupted all over again.

Before the end of the concert, Todd and his band left the stage and the lights went out. Nobody was fooled.

“One more song!” chants quickly filled the auditorium before a video appeared on the screen asking everyone if they should “Do That Again,” a fitting reference to the album and tour.

Todd returned for another theatrical entrance, this time wearing a Florida Panthers jersey that immediately connected with the South Florida audience. He closed out the night with two of his more popular songs, “Do That Again” and “Roommates.”

Outside, the South Florida heat was still beating down. Inside War Memorial Auditorium, a sea of red, movement and noise had taken over the room.

54 Ultra started the night by getting the audience moving, while Malcolm Todd built upon that energy and turned the concert into a theatrical performance where the fans often felt just as much a part of the show as the artists themselves.

For a tour called Do That Again, the experience left plenty of people wanting to do exactly that.
