Lynyrd Skynyrd Brings a Night of Timeless Southern Rock to South Florida
Southern Rock Royalty Meet Rising Stars For A Commanding West Palm Beach Performance – Photos and Review of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Concert at the iThink Financial Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, FL
The summer air over West Palm Beach was thick with rain and humidity this past Friday evening as a slightly wetter-than-expected crowd filed into the iThink Financial Amphitheater for a night dedicated to the enduring spirit of Southern Rock courtesy of the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd. The venue’s iconic covered seating and sprawling lawn buzzed with a multigenerational audience, from silver-haired fans who have followed the band for decades to younger country rock fans discovering the catalog for the first time.

The musical journey began with a burst of fresh energy from Cassidy Daniels, a rising singer-songwriter whose set radiated authenticity and warmth. Taking the stage with her acoustic guitar and a small backing band, she immediately commanded attention with a voice that blended honeyed sweetness with a gritty, emotional core. Her lyrics, steeped in storytelling about love, loss, and restless highways, felt like an open journal set to music, and a standout moment arrived with her track “Heart-Shaped Necklace“. By the time she closed her set with the spirited, foot-stomping “Crazy Love“, she had successfully turned the massive amphitheater into an intimate listening room and set a heartfelt tone for the evening.

As the sky fully darkened, the energy shifted to an unapologetically raucous vibe with the arrival of Six Gun Sally. The seasoned regional rockers wasted no time cranking the amplifiers to eleven and launching into a full-throttle assault of twin-guitar harmonies and thunderous rhythms. The dual lead guitars weaved around each other in a perfect tribute to the classic Southern tradition, ripping through solos that echoed across the sprawling lawn while powerhouse singer Aimee Jane Williams strode around the stage. Six Gun Sally moved with the swagger of a band that has spent countless nights winning over crowds in dive bars, and their cover of classic Allman Brothers Band jam “Ramblin Man” served as the perfect ignition switch, getting the entire venue on its feet and roaring with approval.

Finally, the moment the crowd had been waiting for arrived as the giant video screen flickered to life and the unmistakable opening chords of “Workin’ for MCA” ripped through the amplifiers. Lynyrd Skynyrd took the stage with the quiet confidence of royalty, led by the indomitable Johnny Van Zant, whose voice carried the weight and twang of his brother Ronnie’s legacy while remaining fiercely his own. From the very first note, the set was a flawless journey through history, with Rickey Medlocke’s fiery guitar on “What’s Your Name” and a pummeling version of “Saturday Night Special”, proving the band’s edge is still razor-sharp. The emotional centerpiece of the night came with the legendary “Tuesday’s Gone” (Dedicated to the late Gary Rossington), with the entire amphitheater swaying in unison, the melody drifting through the palm trees as a shared moment of collective reverence.

True to tradition, the show built to its iconic crescendo with an extended version of “Free Bird” that turned the venue into a cathedral of lighters, cell phone flashes, and a chorus of voices singing every word to one of rock’s most sacred hymns. As the final notes of feedback faded and the band took their unified bow, the crowd slowly began to spill out into the South Florida night, still buzzing with the electricity of what they had just witnessed. Cassidy Daniels offered a glimpse into the genre’s future, Six Gun Sally bottled the raw energy of its bar-band roots, and Lynyrd Skynyrd proved that the music they created almost a half-century ago remains a living, breathing monument to the unbreakable Southern soul.
