The Offspring Bring Upbeat California Punk Vibes to South Florida
The Punk Rock Legends Prove They’re Still “Pretty Fly” With A Show Packed Full of Decades of Hits and Nonstop Energy – Photos and Review of The Offspring Concert at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL
The iconic guitar-shaped silhouette of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino shimmered and glowed against the night sky yesterday evening, beckoning fans to a night of high-octane nostalgia inside the state-of-the-art Hard Rock Live as fans gathered to witness California’s Punk Rock Heroes: The Offspring.

Before the headliners took the stage, the energy in the room was skillfully cultivated by opening act Goodtime Alibi. Hailing from the Richmond/DC corridor, the band, whose name perfectly suits their mission, delivered a powerful set of alternative rock that warmed up the crowd. Reminding me a bit of Jane’s Addiction with melodic guitar lines and a tight, grooving rhythm section, they provided a captivating rush of sound that hinted at their 90s influences while sounding fresh and urgent.

As the openers finished up and the venue darkened once again after a short break, the roar that went up signified the anticipation for Dexter Holland and the crew. The 7,000-capacity Hard Rock Live, known for its crystal-clear acoustics and unobstructed sightlines, proved to be the perfect cathedral for The Offspring’s brand of melodic punk mayhem. From the moment they launched into their first riff, it was clear this was a communal celebration of a band whose hits have defined generations.

The setlist was a masterclass in career-spanning showmanship, and naturally the night heavily featured tracks from their two most popular albums, Smash and Americana. When the opening chords of “Come Out and Play” rang out, the crowd sang along with a fervor usually reserved for football matches, their voices almost drowning out Holland’s unmistakable snarl and showing the world that their lyrics are still as relevant as ever.

The band moved through their catalog with a relentless energy, showcasing their decades in the industry with hit after hit. Holland, sporting his signature stage presence, was a whirlwind of activity, while Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman provided the band’s iconic, fuzzy guitar work and a double dose of humor and rock and roll absurdity. The rhythm section held down the fort with a tightness that allowed the melodies to soar, sending waves of sound that the venue’s famed sound system handled with perfect clarity

As the night rolled on, the hits kept coming, along with some Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne covers as tribute to the fallen Metal God. The grinding bassline of “Gotta Get Away” sent the crowd into a frenzy, and the sardonic humor of “Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)” had the entire room bouncing and laughing, a testament to the band’s unique ability to blend social commentary with pure, unadulterated fun.

Finishing up their time on stage with a killer one-two punch of an encore of “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” and arguably their biggest hit “Self Esteem“, the entire venue bounced along with the catchy ear-worm. For many, seeing The Offspring live was a lifelong dream come true, and at the Hard Rock Live, that dream was rendered in high-definition last night, proving that even after all these years, The Offspring are still the kings of the supercharged singalong.
