Swancore Legends Dance Gavin Dance Light Up an Electrifying Sold-Out Show Filled With Fan Favorites and Deep Cuts – Photos and Review of the Dance Gavin Dance Concert at the Jannus Live in St Petersburg, Florida

The energy was electric this weekend as progressive metalcore pioneers Dance Gavin Dance continued their highly anticipated tour with a sold-out performance at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg, FL. The fans in he Tampa bay area are quite the DGD fanatics, with this show being the first one to sell out on the entire tour, filing the whole venue just minutes after the tickets went on sale. Youngsters clad in DGD merch packed the iconic outdoor venue, eager to witness the post-hardcore titans deliver an unforgettable night of high-energy music, supported by an incredible lineup of Dwellings, Belmont, and The Home Team.

The night kicked off with Dwellings, who immediately captivated the crowd with tracks like “Pick Up Before You Go” and “See It Through”, which showcased their ability to seamlessly blend technical musicianship with infectious hooks, warming up the audience perfectly. The Sacramento-based band, known for their progressive take on post-hardcore, delivered a tight set filled with off-kilter rhythms and soaring melodies, and frontman Elijah Sekiya’s smooth yet powerful vocals cut through the mix, while the band’s relentless energy had early arrivals nodding along and shouting lyrics back at the stage. By the time they closed their set, it was clear that Dwellings had won over new fans and set a high bar for the night.

If there’s one band that knows how to turn a crowd into a whirlwind of movement, it’s Belmont. The Chicago metalcore heroes stormed the stage with an explosive presence, immediately igniting mosh pits and crowd surfers. Tracks like “Pushing Daisies” and “SSX Trickmont” had the entire venue bouncing, with guitarist Jason Inguagiato and vocalist Taz Johnson feeding off the crowd’s relentless energy. Johnson’s hyped-up spirit combined and rapid-fire vocal delivery along with the band’s razor-sharp breakdowns kept the intensity at a peak, while their melodic hooks had everyone singing along. Belmont’s set was a masterclass in controlled chaos—punctuated by drummer Brian Lada’s blistering fills—and left the audience breathless, sweaty, and hungry for more.

Before Dance Gavin Dance took the stage, The Home Team brought a refreshing change of pace with their groovy, funk-infused alternative rock. Frontman Brian Butcher commanded the stage with effortless charisma, his smooth vocals gliding over the band’s tight, danceable rhythms. Songs like “Right Through Me” and “Brag” had hips swaying and heads bobbing, showcasing their knack for blending catchy pop sensibilities with rock energy. The band’s playful stage presence and infectious hooks made them an instant crowd favorite, and by the time they closed their set, The Home Team had not only won over the audience but also proved why they’re one of the most exciting rising acts in the scene.

Finally, the time had come for Dance Gavin Dance to take the helm, and the band exploded onto the stage with one of their brand new songs “Speed Demon”, immediately igniting a sea of crowd surfers and mosh pits. Andrew Wells’ pristine vocals cut through the chaos with impossible clarity, effortlessly hitting every soaring high note while Jon Mess unleashed his signature chaotic screams, the two playing off each other with perfect chemistry. Guitarist & Band Mastermind Will Swan was a man possessed, his fingers franticly yet effortlessly flying across the fretboard during the band’s most technical passages while still finding moments to bust out some playful dance moves. The rhythm section of Sergio Medina (bass) and Matt Mingus (drums) locked into impossibly tight grooves, giving the music its unmistakable DGD bounce even during the most frenetic mathcore-influenced breakdowns.

The setlist was a near-perfect career retrospective, spanning from fan-favorite deep cuts to new tracks and of course, their biggest hits. “Straight From The Heart” was another new jam that turned into a massive singalong, along with “The Backwards Pumpkin Song” which featured the entire crowd screaming the lyrics in unison, and “Blue Dream” with everyone dancing to its funky rhythms. The band even threw in some surprises, including a rare performance of “The Robot With The Human Hair” that sent long-time fans into a frenzy. As the night reached its climax with a three song finale of “All The Way Down”, “Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most” (featuring a guest appearance by The Home Team vocalist Brian Butcher) and “The Ghost of Billy Royalton”, the band’s energy never faltered. Will Swan and touring guitarist Martin Bianchini traded blistering guitar solos while Wells and Mess delivered one final vocal onslaught, culminating in an intense finish that left the crowd momentarily stunned before erupting into deafening cheers.

From the explosive opening acts to DGD’s relentless performance, the night was a celebration of progressive post-hardcore at its finest, and the sold-out crowd at Jannus Live once again proved why Dance Gavin Dance’s fanbase is one of the most dedicated in the scene. As the final notes of “The Ghost of Billy Royalton” faded out, fans left sweaty, smiling, and already counting down until the next time Dance Gavin Dance returns to Tampa Bay. If this show was any indication, the rest of the tour is going to be unmissable, so if you have the chance, make sure to get tickets today!
