Solo Sensation or Cinema Confusion? Wes Anderson Strikes a Chord with Eclectic Soundscapes!

May 12th, 2024

Wes Anderson, not to be confused with the famed filmmaker of the same name, is making waves in the music scene with his eclectic blend of chill hip-hop vibes and thundering rock beats. From his roots in bands like Fiction 20 Down and Big Infinite to his solo career, Anderson’s journey is a testament to perseverance and the pursuit of musical freedom.

“I always wanted to be in a big successful rock band,” Anderson reflects, reminiscing about his earlier ventures. “But after about six years of doing that, I was getting a desire to do my own thing.”

Despite sharing a name with the cinematic icon, Anderson’s career hasn’t been without its quirks. “There’s a portion of my new followers on social media that definitely think they’re following the director,” he chuckles. But beyond the confusion, Anderson’s musical identity shines through, promising a fusion of genres inspired by personal taste and practicality.

“I’d say personal taste and preference first and foremost,” he explains. “Also, the rock songs take much longer to produce… Whereas the hip hop stuff is a much quicker turnaround.”

Collaboration lies at the heart of Anderson’s creative process, with each artist bringing something unique to the table. From hip-hop luminaries like The Kaleidoscope Kid and Kosha Dillz to rockers like Hit the Lights and Alien Ant Farm, Anderson’s diverse range of collaborators reflects his broad musical influences.

“Each collaboration is different,” he notes. “Some are super involved… Others just record their parts and send them to me.”

But how does Anderson ensure cohesion amidst such diversity? “That’s definitely a major challenge,” he admits. “The streaming algorithms heavily favor artists that stay in a certain lane… But at the end of the day, I want to release whatever I want to, when I want to.”

As for upcoming releases, Anderson hints at surprises in store. “The song I’m releasing with Stephen Richards from Taproot is pretty freaking nuts,” he teases. “His vocal performance is insane, and I channeled my inner Deftones influence.”

Despite evolving production techniques, Anderson remains true to his roots. “I’ve always written my songs on guitar first and go from there,” he says. “But for the new batch, I’ve definitely leveled up the production quality.”

Ultimately, Anderson hopes his music resonates with listeners on a personal level. “I hope people get some kind of positive feeling from my music,” he shares. “Whether that’s a nostalgia vibe, happy, energized, or whatever… I just hope it can help brighten peoples’ day.”

With recent releases like “Glory Daze” featuring Nick Thompson of Hit The Lights, Wes Anderson continues to carve his own path in the music industry, blending genres, defying expectations, and spreading good vibes along the way.
