Highwaymen Artist Mazz Steals Palm Beach Spotlight
Master Florida Artist Mazz Captivates Palm Beach Crowd as Live Painting Sells the Moment It Is Finished.

Florida landscape painter Mazz, a longtime figure in the Highwaymen art community, delivered a standout live‑painting performance during a recent gathering at This Is It Café & Highwaymen Gallery, where collectors, artists, and local figures turned out for an evening of art and conversation.
Mazz, who has spent more than 40 years painting Florida’s natural scenery and working alongside original Highwaymen artists, created a new work titled “Purple Hyacinths” live at the event. The moment he signed the final palette‑knife stroke, the painting was purchased by Mark Lerner, Miami gallery owner, Highwaymen dealer, and longtime collector of Mazz’s work.
The evening also included a personal highlight: a Ft. Pierce artist and admirer who had studied Mazz’s work for years requested that an Egret be added to his painting using a palette knife. Mazz obliged, and the collector later sent a message praising the artist: “Thank you Mazz… You’re the GOAT brother.” Most event photos were taken by Jesse Lee Davis III, with the final painting and its reverse sketch photographed by Collette Richards.
Guests sampled the café’s new dinner offerings, including fresh tuna with vegetables, salmon cakes, cod and dolphin fish fingers, and chicken parmesan, as the restaurant celebrated both its anniversary and the launch of its expanded evening menu.
During the event, Mazz was also approached by Victoria Doyle, a congressional candidate seeking to replace Lois Frankel, who briefly spoke with the artist while accompanied by a quiet security aide.
The appearance follows Mazz’s recent feature at the 15th Annual Jetson Highwaymen Art Show, where he painted a vivid Royal Poinciana tree live before a crowd of collectors. “People were stunned by Mazz’s artwork, we want him back next year,” said Susan Harris of Jetsons, Fort Pierce. Highwaymen dealers Mark Lerner and John Beiderwolf, who hosted the Highwaymen Collector Booth, praised his mastery.
Mazz, who began selling his work along South Florida beaches in 1980, has painted with Sam Newton, Robert Lewis, and other Highwaymen, and received guidance from A.E. Backus early in his career. He continues to paint daily from his studio in Port St. Lucie.

The Luli Babe puts a polished spin on the classic espresso martini, while Golden Hour pairs salted caramel with edible gold shimmer. Miami After Dark takes a richer approach with chocolate hazelnut and a cocoa dust finish.
Along with cocktails, guests can expect light bites, curated details and a special personalized surprise.
