Mud, Madness, and Mayhem Return to the Popular Obstacle Course, Savage Race.

Savage Race in Dade City is an absolute thrill ride from start to finish! The course is a perfect blend of mud, obstacles and a touch of insanity. Whether you’re a seasoned OCR pro or a first-timer looking for an adventure, the race delivers the ultimate playground. With a whopping 25 obstacles scattered throughout the course, it’s a rollercoaster of challenges that will test your strength, agility and even your sense of humor. Hilarious named obstacles include “Holy Sheet,” “Me So Thorny,” “Shriveled Richard,” “Yank My Chain,” “Teeter Tuber” and “Scornhole.”

The unique names of the obstacles are as entertaining as the challenges themselves. “Yank My Chain” while sounding like something out of a slapstick comedy is in reality an extremely challenging test of upper body strength where a strong grip means everything. Then there’s “Teeter Tuber,” which flips the modern seesaw on its head. At the obstacle runners try to maneuver up an incline through a 24-inch diameter tube until you reach the pivot point, then ride the tube down and out the other side. This 20-foot tube is definitely not for those who are uncomfortable with tight spaces. In another test of upper body strength, you essentially have to worm your way through the slippery tube. Yet, another obstacle pushing your upper body strength to its threshold is “Scornhole.” Here you’re thrusting a large Slam Ball into a hole that is only 3,’ think Skeeball but with a medicine ball. Trust me it’s easier said than done.

Throughout the course, you aways seem to be faced with the next obstacle before you could even catch your breath. But, regardless of any shortcoming you may have, the camaraderie among participants to help you conquer the obstacles you face is surreal. Strangers become instant allies, helping each other all along the way.

Savage Race also adds another layer of fun, with music pumping, food trucks serving up post-race fuel and just a pleasant atmosphere of exhausted smiles. It’s the perfect place to swap stories about epic mud dives and triumphant obstacle victories. Crossing the finish line is the ultimate sense of accomplishment.
