Grand Bahama Gets Wild and Wonderful
Pigs, Fins and Flippers: Freeport on Grand Bahama Island Delivers an Animal Adventure Worth Squealing About.
June 24th – 26th, 2021
Swimming with Pigs in Freeport, Bahamas is the kind of experience that sounds completely made up until you are standing in crystal clear turquoise water, sharing beach time with a squad of snout nosed celebrities. This island attraction lets guests meet, feed, swim with, and snap selfies with Freeport’s most adorable four-legged locals.

The excursion takes place at Crystal Beach and includes transportation from a Freeport hotel or cruise port, beach entrance, taxes, and plenty of piggy interaction for those ready to go hog wild. Guests should bring water shoes, a swimsuit, towel, change of clothes, and a waterproof pouch, because once the pigs trot into the water, things can get splashy fast.
And while the whole experience is absolutely squeal worthy, it is still worth remembering that these pigs are not exactly showing up for polite small talk. They come in hungry, so be careful when feeding them and keep your hands clear unless you want a little unexpected nibble with your island adventure. There is also a very real chance that one of the pigs may decide the ocean is its personal bathroom, which means you could find yourself floating beside something other than waves.

Still, that is part of the absurd charm. It is part beach day, part animal encounter, and part “did I really just swim with pigs in the Bahamas while dodging pig poop?” moment. In other words, it is a hog wild, slightly messy, completely memorable Bahamas adventure with plenty of oink cred.
Of course, Freeport’s animal encounters do not stop once the pigs waddle back to shore. For a more polished marine experience, UNEXSO’s Dolphin Experience near Port Lucaya lets guests trade squeals for clicks, whistles, and a little dolphin side eye. This experience has a very different rhythm than the pig swim. The pigs arrive like hungry vacation crashers. The dolphins glide in like they have been rehearsing for their own aquatic Broadway number.

Set in a controlled lagoon, the dolphin encounter gives guests the chance to get in the water, interact up close, and share a few moments with one of the ocean’s most charismatic performers. They surface beside you, move with ridiculous grace, and somehow manage to make everyone else in the water look like they are auditioning for “confused tourist number three.” It is smooth, scenic, and definitely more flipper finesse than barnyard chaos.

Being near Port Lucaya also makes it easy to pair with shopping, dining, or a relaxed afternoon nearby. While the pig swim delivers the laughs, the dolphin encounter brings the “wow, this is really happening” feeling. It is one of those experiences where you go in expecting a fun photo op and leave convinced the dolphin understood more about the assignment than half the people on the boat.
Another standout Freeport experience is turtle snorkeling at Paradise Cove / Deadman’s Reef in Freeport, Grand Bahama, where the pace slows down and the island shows off its quieter underwater magic. This is less splashy spectacle and more peaceful reef therapy, with guests snorkeling through clear Bahamian water while sea turtles cruise beneath the surface like they have nowhere to be and absolutely no interest in your schedule.

Unlike the pigs, the turtles are not aggressively campaigning for snacks, and unlike the dolphins, they are not trying to steal the show. They just drift along with calm, ancient confidence, basically giving off “I’ve been doing this longer than your whole family tree” energy. Floating above them feels relaxed, natural, and genuinely beautiful, especially when the water clears and one of them glides across the reef like a slow moving underwater celebrity.
It is also a great reminder that some of the best island moments do not need much production. No squealing, no splashing for attention, no pig related bathroom concerns. Just fins, reef, sunlight, and a sea turtle casually making everyone’s vacation photos look better.

Together, the three experiences show off very different sides of Grand Bahama. The swimming pigs bring the comedy. The dolphins bring the wow factor. The turtle snorkel brings the calm, underwater beauty. Freeport may not always get the same spotlight as Nassau or Exuma, but between Crystal Beach, Sanctuary Bay, and Paradise Cove / Deadman’s Reef, it delivers a full island adventure packed with snouts, squeals, fins, flippers, and enough animal encounters to make your camera roll look like Noah’s Ark took a beach vacation.
