Groovin’ to Stick Figure, SOJA and Little Stranger

Reggae Reverie in West Palm Beach: SOJA, Stick Figure, and Little Stranger Rock the Amphitheater with a Mesmerizing Blend of Heartfelt Hits and High-Energy Grooves.
August 10th, 2024
As the second-to-last stop on the Sacred Sands Summer Tour, West Palm Beach’s iThink Financial Amphitheater was packed to the brim. With reggae giants SOJA and Stick Figure headlining, the crowd was primed for an evening of feel-good vibes and anthems that have topped the US Reggae charts for years.

Kicking things off was Little Stranger, a band that’s anything but your average opener. The South Carolina duo brought their witty, genre-blending style to life, and the crowd was all in, belting out massive choruses during tracks like “Coffee and a Joint” from Trip Around Saturn (Deluxe) and “Busted Brain,” “Kama Sumatra” and “MAD DUMB” from their latest album Sat Around Trippin’. Their alternative hip-hop and reggae fusion was the perfect warm-up, setting the stage for the night’s reggae juggernauts. If you’re new to Little Stranger, think of a crafty blend between AJR and The Dirty Heads—full of fun hooks and playfully catchy lyrics that stick with you long after the show.

Next up, the Grammy-winning SOJA delivered a set that was both powerful and uplifting. They hit all the right notes with fan-favorite tracks like the resilient “Not Done Yet,” the introspective “Here I Am,” the hopeful “Everything Changes” and the hauntingly melodic “Shadow.” But the true magic of the night came with their anthem “Sorry.” As the band played, everybody from the seats to the lawn seemed to unite, with every voice singing along to the theme of forgiveness that clearly struck a chord with everyone in attendance.

Closing out the night, Stick Figure weathered a storm delay like the pros they are, diving straight into a setlist that spanned their impressive career. The Roots-Reggae stars performed tracks like “Moon Palace,” “Way of Life,” “Above the Storm” and “Sound System,” alongside newer favorites such as “Sticky Situation” and “Fire on the Horizon.” The band even threw in a Phish cover with “First Tube” and surprised the crowd with a reggae-infused rendition of Mary J. Blige’s “Family Affair,” which was a huge hit with the audience. The performance was accompanied by a stunning light show, and of course, the band’s beloved mascot, Cocoa the Tour Dog—a rescued Australian Shepherd—made her much-anticipated appearance, sharing the stage with another furry friend.

With their latest release Set in Stone, Stick Figure’s frontman Scott Woodruff continues to prove why he’s one of the most innovative minds in the reggae scene. As a self-taught musician, Woodruff’s ability to write, produce and record such authentic and captivating music is a testament to his talent and dedication.
In the end, the Sacred Sands Summer Tour in West Palm Beach was more than just a concert; it was a celebration of the reggae fusion scene, bringing together fans and artists in a shared love for music that uplifts and unites.
