Disney on Ice: A Magical Journey Through Frozen and Encanto

From Ice Castles to Enchanted Villages: Disney on Ice Transforms Arenas into Magical Realms, Weaving Together the Beloved Stories of Frozen and Encanto with Dazzling Performances.

April 5th, 2024

The enchanting world of Disney came alive on the ice this past Friday night at Sunrise’s Amerant Bank Arena, wrapping us in its warmth amid the chilly atmosphere. As we swayed, sang and danced along to beloved Disney tales of Frozen and Encanto, the magic of childhood joy swept through the arena. Entire families committed to their general love of Disney. Accompanied by my own little Elsa, whose excitement mirrored that of countless other children decked out in princess and prince attire, the evening promised an unforgettable experience.

From the moment we entered, the air was filled with anticipation and delight. A myriad of trinkets awaited, offering an opportunity to immerse ourselves fully in the spectacle, from glowing wands to intricate costumes. The festivities commenced with a visit from the iconic Mickey Mouse, who along with the entire crew, set the stage with lively music and a dazzling dance sequence before the chilly treat that is Frozen. Throughout the show, thoughtful 5-minute warnings provided parents with ample time to settle their little ones, ensuring a seamless experience for all.

If you are a frozen fan, this is definitely the show for you as singing and dancing along is more than encouraged. I have loved Frozen from the day it premiered to the weekly watching that my toddler forced me to partake in– this show was incredible. I felt as giddy as the sea of children I was surrounded by, and so were their parents. With each song, the crowd became more and more enthusiastic. From “First Time in Forever” to “In Summer” the theatrics were vivacious. Anna glided gracefully on the ice and Kristoff stunned us all with the daring backflips and tucks. However, the absolute best number of the evening was “Let it Go” from the ice queen herself, who climbed a frosty and moving staircase, which caused quite a flurry to come down.

To couple one of the best representations of sisterly love and working together as a family, the 2021 hit Encanto brought all there was to offer on the subject. This emotional story of belonging and sacrifice was perfectly depicted through the performances retelling. Featuring songs like “Surface Pressure” and “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” performers dangled from the ceiling and created a waterfall of flower petals exactly as it was told in the cinematic production. Strong girl Louisa got the crowd particularly riled up as she was able to pick up and break giant boulders and pull wagons of donkeys. She has quickly become a symbol of girl power, and the audience full of eager little girls were grateful for her character.

The show concluded with a special visit from several original princesses like Jasmine, Belle and my personal favorite: Ariel aka The Little Mermaid. Their farewell came with a small shower of fireworks and bubbles.

For parents pondering the worthiness of such an outing, the answer is a resounding yes. Despite any apprehensions, the show proved to be a seamless and captivating experience, captivating both young (like my two toddlers) and old alike. Afterall, I am usually weary of traveling to events with my kids, worried that they won’t be able sit still for that long or that I may get caught in their dreaded meltdown, but this show was had them hooked from the beginning to the end. There was an ease to the night that I can only chalk up to the magic of Disney and… maybe a couple of Olaf snow cones.

This show made it an easy night out for parents with their children, with songs that are impossible to not sing along to and moments that are not easily forgotten. So, don your finest Disney attire, brush up on the lyrics, and prepare to embark on a journey of song and spectacle that will leave hearts aglow.
